Viral reemerging enzootic and bee diseases

Head of Service:

Anticipating, detecting and monitoring enzootic and vector-borne viral animal diseases and bee diseases

We detect, identify and monitor infectious viral diseases in pigs, ruminants and horses. Whether they are known enzootic viruses such as bovine viral diarrhea, (re)emerging diseases such as African swine fever, or vector-transmitted diseases such as the Schmallenberg or West Nile virus, we monitor potential threats at national level and international level. Our unit is also responsible for the diagnosis of notifiable bee diseases. Our research focuses on prevention, control and monitoring of these diseases and on the analysis of the vector competence of enzootic vectors. We ensure the quality of the diagnostic reagents used by the field actors involved in official control plans. We also advise health authorities on an ongoing basis to help them control and counter animal diseases of viral origin.
