The surveillance of rotavirus in Belgium is based on data originating from two different sources:
- Data from the network of sentinel laboratories: reporting by the laboratories participating in this network on the number of cases of rotavirus infections on a national and local scale.
- Surveillance of the strains of rotavirus circulating (genotyping) is provided by the National Reference Centre (NRC) for rotavirus (the UZ Leuven/KU Leuven).
A rotavirus infection is not a reportable disease in Belgium.
The data are incorporated into epidemiological reports and articles, which can be found in the ‘publications’ section at the very bottom of this page.
