Philippe Castelain holds a Masters in Biological Sciences at the VUB (1984), followed by a year of aggregation in secondary education.
He worked successively at the university, and in a pharmaceutical company, in the fields of genotoxicology, carcinogenesis, and in-vitro metabolism.
He started working in 1999 as a regulatory toxicologist at the IPH (Institute of Public Health, WIV-ISP, predecessor of Sciensano) as a regulatory toxicologist for plant protection products.
He is responsible for the coordination of the active substance evaluation for the Federal Public Service for Public Health, where he specifically addresses the toxicology, human exposure, and classification and labelling sections.
