Dr. Wim Vanden Berghe MSc

Wim Vanden Berghe obtained his master’s degree in sociology at Ghent University (2003) and subsequently worked at the same institution as a sociologist on health issues among sexual minorities within the team of the late professor John Vincke. Between 2009 and 2014 he was a researcher at the department of public health (and IHAC) of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp under the supervision of professor Marie Laga. In this function, he coordinated and was involved in several policy and research projects on HIV prevalence and HIV related sexual behavior of MSM in Belgium and Europe. In 2013 he obtained his PhD in health sciences at Maastricht University. Apart from research, he has been involved in education at the sociology department, Ghent University, ITM Antwerp and VIVES university college teaching both methodological and (applied) theoretical courses. Today he coordinates the sexually transmitted diseases surveillance at Sciensano.
