The European project QUANTUM, which was launched in January 2024 for a duration of 30 months, brings together 30 partners from 14 European countries with the aim of developing a quality label for the secondary use of health data in the European Union. This project is led by the Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud (IACS) and funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme.
Sciensano participates in this project to contribute to the design of a data quality label: an essential element of the future European Health Data Space (EHDS). The QUANTUM project focuses on Article 56 of the European Health Data Space, which paves the way for significant advances in the field of health data quality and utility.
The role of Sciensano in the project
Sciensano is leading Work Package 2 of QUANTUM, which aims to design, develop and test the label. In the coming months, we focus on designing, developing and testing a small scale tool that allows:
- data holders to provide standardised information on the data quality and utility of their datasets;
- data holders to include elements on their maturity level;
- data users and data access bodies to include their user experience.
Sciensano is also participating in Work Package 1, which aims to bring together the necessary conceptual grounds and evidence for an EHDS data quality and utility label focusing on evaluating the quality of the data per se and the maturity levels of data holder’s organisations. Sciensano is also participating in the communication and dissemination work package of the project.
