The results of SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance can support crisis management and decision-making. They should be considered complementary to the other available surveillance indicators (laboratory-based positive cases, hospitalizations, changes in testing policy, etc.) in the light of the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern.
Although further developments are still ongoing to better define the predictive performance of the SARS-CoV-2 wastewater-based surveillance, it appears as a valuable tool for the follow-up of the epidemiological situation in Belgium.
