Introduction

The aim of the BY-COVID project is to make infectious disease data accessible to scientists in laboratories, but also to anyone likely to use them, such as medical staff in hospitals or civil servants. 

Based on the scientific work in the project, an educational toolkit was created, that is understandable and usable for a wide audience. Case studies have been produced to illustrate issues relating to data: how it is used, how it is protected, where it can be found, the FAIR principles and so on. Talking about the use of this data would raise awareness among future generations about the use of their health data and address a topical issue.

These cases are grouped together in an educational package, which is being disseminated in schools so that teachers can have a discussion with their students about the use of data, from an ethical point of view. The cases are framed by different themes that help to focus the lesson, but the toolkit is designed to be a starting point to be tailored to specific needs.
