Cause
The use of a condom is essential to protect yourself and your partners against STDs. It is recommended that women aged between 25 and 64 have HPV screening and that young girls aged from 12 to 14 years old (up to 18 years old) are vaccinated against HPV.
How is the HPV infection transmitted?
- During sexual intercourse without a condom (vaginal, anal and oral)
- During sexual caresses (direct contact with the skin that has the lesions, transmission by the fingers)
- From mother to child, during birth
HPV is also transmitted by routes other than sexual routes.
A large majority of the population has come into contact with the virus in the course of their life, without showing any symptoms [1] and the virus has cleared up spontaneously.
