Every day, Sciensano watches over the health of the population and of the farm animals. We identify new developments and take initiatives to improve public health including the impact of animal health on public health. The results of Sciensano’s science and research are published on Sciensano’s website, or distributed by reports, brochures and press. They allow you and the public to better make informed, healthy choices.

Policy support
Sciensano’s research and applied science are used to help develop the nation’s policies and programs. The work of our scientists and researchers helps influence decisions about diseases, hazardous substances, food and drugs, consumer products, and much more.
Sciensano’s independence is guaranteed. The scientific quality of our work is overseen by a Scientific Counsel and 5 Science Advisory Boards.
National coordination
Due to Belgium’s complex three-level structure, public and animal health policy competences are shared between the Federal State, the Communities and the Regions. Sciensano assures the nation-wide coordination of health activities, aiming at adequate knowledge for policy-making. This coordination helps to develop policy, to govern its implementation, and to gather uniform, qualitative public health information nation-wide.
International representation
