Sciensano & Lassa fever

Sciensano is responsible for organising a ‘Risk Assessment Group’ if there is a threat to public health. The national protocol for the Ebola virus applies to Lassa fever.

Belgium is supported by the European Commission, which provides tools for infection prevention and control by producing risk analyses, formulating recommendations and facilitating rapid communication between Member States. At European level, there is also a network of expert laboratories for emerging viral diseases to assist Member States with regard to diagnosis, surveillance and intervention in the case of grouped cases.
