Description of tests
Detection of parvovirus B19 by PCR on serum or EDTA plasma.
Purpose of tests
Diagnosis of acute parvovirus infection during pregnancy or in the newborn.
Criteria for performing this test
- The reference centre will perform the PCR test in case of serology indicating recent infection during pregnancy, to confirm or exclude the diagnosis, or in newborns to confirm or exclude congenital Parvovirus B19 infection.
- Application forms should be completed in full.
Instructions for samples and transport
0.5 ml serum:
- For non-frozen serum : transport at room temperature
- In case of frozen serum : preferably transport in frozen condition.
The analysis can also be performed on EDTA plasma.
Unacceptable requests
- Incomplete request form
- Insufficient sample
- Sample not suitable for analysis
- Application does not meet the criteria
Turn around time
1 to 5 working days (contact the laboratory in case of emergency)
Reporting of test results
The laboratory reports the results and comments and sends it to the requesting laboratory by mail or fax.
