Amber Van Laer followed a specialization in infectious diseases and tropical diseases at the University of Antwerp (UA). As part of her master’s thesis, she has carried out research together with the University of Antwerp, the University of Porto, and i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde da Universidade do Porto) into the development of an antigen delivery platform for Leishmaniasis, a parasitic infectious disease transmitted by sand flies. In January 2022 she started at Sciensano as an epidemiologist for the European project HERA-BE-WGS. Furthermore, she coordinates together with a few colleagues from the service Epidemiology of Infectious diseases the National Reference Centers for human microbiology (NRC).
