Test description

Real-time PCR, DermaGenius (Pathonostics)

Purpose of the test

Identification of the fungus causing the infection, even in contaminated culture

Criteria for performing this test in the context of reference activities

Test performed on nails, skin and hair only if the direct examination is positive, the culture is negative and a dermatophytosis is suspected. A PCR can also be performed starting from a positive culture, if conventional methods do not allow identification. In this case, ITS sequencing is preferred, unless contamination of the sample is present.
