Confirmation susceptibility for tigecycline

Last updated on 4-3-2025 by Amber Van Laer

Description of the test

Phenotypic susceptibility to tigecycline is determined by microdilution and confirmed genotypically by Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).

Purpose of the test

Confirmation sensitivity to tigecycline

Criteria for conducting this test in the context of reference activities

Clinically relevant strains

Instructions for samples

Pure culture on blood agar with individual colonies

Instructions for transport

  • Sample shipment: Reink culture of strain on blood agar with individual colonies
  • Shipping conditions: at room temperature
  • Shipping or delivery of strains: Strains can be sent by post to the above address or deposited at the reception of the Clinical Biology Department of the University Hospital Antwerp (UZA), route 169, 3rd floor
  • When sending strains, the following items must be respected:
    • Completed request form
    • Nutrient media should be unambiguously identified with the reference number of the request

Unacceptable requests

  • No pure culture
  • Missing or incomplete application form

Turn around time (and frequency of analysis)

Phenotypic susceptibility determination by microdilution is performed on all weekdays. Genotypic confirmation by WGS is performed monthly with a TAT of 35 days.
