Dr. Daniela Montalvo Grijalva PhD
Scientist
Daniela Montalvo graduated (2005) with a Bachelor in Agricultural Sciences from the Army Polytechnic School, Ecuador. She then obtained a MSc in Soil Science (2008) from North Carolina State University, USA and a PhD in Soil Science (2014) from The University of Adelaide, Australia. During her doctoral studies she investigated different phosphorus fertilizer types (granular, liquid, nano-sized) in enhancing phosphorus availability in strongly phosphorus fixing soils. She continued her career as a postdoctoral researcher (2015-2020) at the Division of Soil and Water Management at KULeuven where she worked in a Horizon 2020 project investigating the adsorption properties of colloidal iron oxide particles produced for in situ remediation of groundwater contaminated with heavy metals. Additionally, she was actively involved in a VLIR-UOS project coordinating research work between Ecuador and Belgium and providing scientific expertise in the laboratory and agronomic studies conducted to better understand the factors that control cadmium uptake by cacao plants. In 2021 Daniela Montalvo joined Sciensano as a scientist in the Service of Trace Elements and Nanomaterials.
