Sofie is scientific director data governance (A.I.) at Sciensano and head of service at Healthdata.be. I did a Master in demography (university of Louvain La Neuve, Belgium), with a Bachelor in sociology (University of Ghent, Belgium) and I have a PhD in social statistics/reproductive health from the university of Southampton, UK. After teaching at the university of Southampton, I worked for 6 years at the Office for National Statistics in Titchfield, UK, on Improving Migration Estimates. In 2012 I moved to Germany where I taught research methods at the university of Duisburg-Essen. Between 2015 and 2021, I worked for Statistics Netherlands as head of methodology and scientific director of the Centre for Big Data Statistics. Between August 2023 and April 2024 I was leading the Health Data Agency ad interim.
