Dr. Stéphanie Depickère BSc
Scientist
Stéphanie Depickère obtained her PhD in Biology in 2003 through a joint program between Paris XIII University and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), with a specialization in ethology, focusing on ant behavior. Following her doctoral studies, she contributed to a European project investigating mixed societies of cockroaches and autonomous robots. For the next 16 years, she dedicated her career to the study of vector-borne diseases—particularly Chagas disease—in Bolivia, South America. Her work integrated extensive field research with laboratory investigations, examining vector biology, life cycles, vector competence and capacity, and vector–host–ecosystem interactions through a One Health framework aimed at informing and improving vector control policies. Concurrently, she developed expertise in data analysis and machine learning, working with R and Python. In 2021, she joined Sciensano, where she works as a data scientist and data manager within the Platform for Interventional Studies (PLIS).
