Description of the test
Determination of antibiotic sensitivity of Yersinia by the microdilution method. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) is determined for a predefined panel of antibiotics, where a suspension of a culture is incubated 18h+/- 2h with series of predefined concentrations of each selected antibiotic. The following antibiotics are tested:
Purpose of the test
Sensitivity determination of Yersinia strains to antibiotics as part of resistance surveillance.
Criteria for conducting this test in the context of reference activities.
Antibiotic susceptibility testing of Yersinia strains confirmed by the NRC and isolated from patients showing symptoms of Yersiniosis. These analyses are performed on all pathogenic strains (analysis performed as part of the NRC Yersinia surveillance).
Instructions for samples
- Type: Isolated Yersinia strains are sent on a transport medium or other solid or liquid medium.
- Minimum amount: Not applicable
Instructions for transport
Samples should be packed in a double container and stored at room temperature. The container should be hermetically sealed.
Unacceptable applications
Not applicable
Turnaround time (and frequency of analysis)
- Turnaround time: 30 working days
- Days of analysis: Any weekday (excluding: public holidays, extended weekends and the period between Christmas and New Year).
Reporting of test results
This analysis is carried out as part of surveillance. If the applicant requires a report of this analysis, it is best to contact the NRC by telephone or electronically . The analysis report will then be sent in the manner desired by the applicant.
