Last updated on 27-11-2024 by Amber Van Laer

Description of the test

  • DNA extraction via NucliSens easyMAG/eMAG (BioMérieux)
  • MucorGenius (Pathonostics) analysis via LightCycler 480II (Roche) (real-time PCR and melting curves)

Purpose of the test

Detection of Mucorales species DNA (Rhizopus species, Mucor species, Lichtheimia species, Cunninghamella species and Rhizomucor species) — diagnosis of mucormycosis

Criteria for performing this test in the context of reference activities

Suspicion of a fungal infection in a patient at risk for fungal infections where a normal sterile sample (biopsy or puncture fluid) is collected.
Presence of fungal threads in the direct microscopic examination of a normal sterile sample.
Patient with possible invasive mycosis (based on host factors and radiology) in which the galactomannan determination and culture of the BAL fluid is negative (an additional request on the BAL fluid is possible in that context).

Instructions for samples
