Test description

Microbroth dilution and/or E-test.

Purpose of the test

Sensitivity determination or confirmation of resistance or in case of abnormal profile

Criteria for performing this test in the context of reference activities

  • Yeast: In case of invasive infection, recurrent Candida (vulvo) vaginitis, cutaneous cryptococcosis
  • Filamentous fungi: Invasive infection, aspergilloma, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.
  • Dermatophytes: Recalcitrant or extensive superficial infection, suspected resistance to Terbinafine, potential context of Trichophyton indotineae (After travel in or around India).

Instructions for samples

  • Isolate of fungal infection.
  • Storage at room temperature.

Instructions for transport

Transport on Sabouraud agar or other culture medium.

Unacceptable applications

Application form not fully completed, criteria not met

Turn-around time (and frequency of analysis)

  • Yeast: 4 working days
  • Filamentous fungi: 7 working days
  • Dermatophytes: 14 working days 

Reporting of test results

Paper report, e-mail or fax according to client preference.

Funding

  • Fungi isolated from normal sterile samples = NIHDI nomenclature.
  • Fungi isolated from other samples = Reference centre activity.
