Test description
Detection of neutralising antibodies to yellow fever virus.
Purpose of the test
Evaluation of post-vaccination protection in defined groups (see section3. Criteria).
Criteria for performing this test
- Checking post-vaccination status is unnecessary for most individuals, as in people with normal immunity, a single yellow fever vaccination provides lifelong protection. For some subpopulations in whom there is doubt whether the immune response is optimal (as, for example, in young children), a one-time booster is recommended (expert opinion). In these people, determination of neutralising antibodies is therefore also unnecessary.
- Detection of neutralising antibodies is only recommended in:
- people in whom immunosuppressive medication was temporarily stopped to receive a yellow fever vaccination. In this case, a check-up 1 to 2 months after vaccination is recommended (expert opinion)
- individuals with permanently reduced immunity who need a booster but cannot receive it for medical reasons.
- Prior consultation between the responsible specialist and an ITG vaccination expert is desirable.
- Indicate the date (year) of the last yellow fever vaccination and motivation on the request form.
