National Reference Center (NRC) for Salmonella and Shigella spp.

The main mission of the National Reference Centre (NRC) is to ensure epidemiological surveillance of human infections of Salmonella and Shigella. This surveillance aims to detect epidemics as soon as possible, as well as their origins and to evaluate long-term spatial and temporal trends in the evolution of this germ. In addition, Salmonella strains, mainly isolated from foodstuffs, are also serotyped. This allows any link between the source of contamination and the human epidemic to be established. The NRC also monitors the antibiotic sensitivity of the isolated germs.
