Dr. Nicolas Berger PhD

Dr Nicolas Berger co-leads the Nutrition and Health unit at Sciensano. He is responsible for the Belgian Food Consumption Survey 2022. His primary research interests are in the contextual and socio-environmental determinants of diet and physical activity, and in the application of novel statistical methods.
Dr Berger is also an Honorary Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), which he initially joined in 2014 to complete his PhD in Social Epidemiology. In his work at LSHTM Population Health Innovation Lab, he studies the impact of policies and industry-led changes on food and beverage consumption. Prior to that, he worked for more than 3 years at the Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP). He has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the Free University of Brussels (ULB), a Masters in Philosophy of Science from The Sorbonne (Paris) and a complementary Masters in Applied Statistics from the KU Leuven.
