Dr. Nicolas Berger PhD
Senior Scientist
Dr Nicolas Berger leads the Nutrition and physical activity unit at Sciensano (formerly Nutrition and Health). He is responsible for the Belgian Food Consumption Survey and director of Sciensano’s Expertise Center in Health Promotion for the Walloon Region. His primary research interests are in the contextual and socio-environmental determinants of diet and physical activity, and in the application of novel methods to provide policy-relevant health information.
Since 2024, Dr Berger is a guest lecturer at the Free Univerity of Brussels (ULB). He was (honorary) Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) until 2023, which he initially joined in 2014 to complete his PhD in Social Epidemiology. Prior to that, he worked for 3 years at the Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP). He has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the Free University of Brussels (ULB), a Masters in Philosophy of Science from The Sorbonne (Paris) and a complementary Masters in Applied Statistics from the KU Leuven.
