Nicolas Berger PhD
Dr Nicolas Berger co-leads the Nutrition and Health unit at Sciensano. He is responsible for the Belgian Food Consumption Survey 2022. His primary research interests are in the contextual and socio-environmental determinants of diet and physical activity, and in the application of novel statistical methods.
Since 2018, he has been a Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, which he joined in 2014 to complete his PhD in Social Epidemiology. In his work at the Population Health Innovation Lab (PHI|Lab: philab.lshtm.ac.uk), he studies the impact of policies and industry-led changes on food and beverage consumption. Prior to that, he worked for more than 3 years at the Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP). He has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the Free University of Brussels (ULB), a Masters in Philosophy of Science from The Sorbonne (Paris) and a complementary Masters in Applied Statistics from the KU Leuven.
