Results of the National Food Consumption Survey 2022-2023

Last updated on 31-7-2025 by Laïla Boulbayem

Nutrition, physical activity and sedentary behaviour of the Belgian population

The National Food Consumption Survey details Belgian eating habits, guiding government food policies and dietary guidelines. It also measures the physical activity and sedentary behaviour of the population.

Regular surveys are essential due to changing habits. The first survey in 2004 investigated the habits in persons between 15 and 64 years old. In 2014-2015, data was collected from 3200 persons between 3 and 64 years. This latest survey conducted in 2022-2023 involves 3,020 participants aged 3 and older, plus an extra sample of 1,000 in Brussels and 160 in the German-speaking community.
