Type-2 diabetes is the most widespread kind. Its onset may be delayed or avoided by adopting a healthy lifestyle (healthy nutrition, physical exercise and weight watching). Type-1 diabetes, on the other hand, cannot be prevented.
A healthy lifestyle
Type-2 diabetes is one of the complications of obesity.
To prevent Type-2 diabetes, it is essential to:
- monitor one’s weight and maintain it at a healthy level (Body Mass Index)
- take physical exercise (at least 30 min per day; more if you want to lose weight)
- have a healthy diet (more fruit and vegetables, less sugar and fat)
- stop smoking (smoking increases the risk of cardiovascular disease).
