20 months of COVID crisis: chronic stress continues to peak with healthcare providers and caregivers

Healthcare providers and caregivers still experience symptoms of chronic stress to a large to very large extend after 20 months of the corona crisis. This persistent stress has a negative impact on their well-being. 28% of the participants are considering quitting their profession. The need for support remains high. These are the results of the fourth national ‘POWER TO CARE’ survey by Sciensano and KU Leuven, in which 786 healthcare professionals participated.

Number of pupils and school staff with antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 comparable to number in the general population

From December 2020 to Januari 2021, 12.4% of the pupils and 14.8% of the school staff in primary school and in the first grade of secondary education in Belgium had antibodies against the coronavirus. These results are comparable to the findings in the general population. This is shown in a study by Sciensano in collaboration with the Catholic University of Leuven. The study lasts until the end of the school year and follows the evolution of the number of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in pupils and school staff.

Restart weekend reporting from 27/3

Due to the current epidemiological situation, the Hospital & Transport Surge Capacity committee has asked hospitals to report their numbers to Sciensano again on a daily basis, including weekends. As a result, all COVID-19 figures will be updated daily on the Epistat dashboard and in the open datasets. A daily report will appear every day.

COVID-19 figures will not be updated on Sundays

The “Hospital & Transport Surge Capacity” committee has decided that as from Saturday 20 March 2021, hospitals will no longer have to send their COVID-19 surveillance data to Sciensano on Saturdays, to reduce their workload. They can postpone reporting the data from Saturday to Sunday (in 2 separate registrations for Saturday and Sunday). As a consequence, the COVID-19 figures will not be updated on Sundays anymore.
