Mycolic acids (MAs) are highly hydrophobic long-chain alpha-alkyl beta-hydroxy fatty acids present in the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) as a complex mixture of molecules with a common general structure but with variable functional groups in the meromycolate chain.
