Sciensano is verheugd om dit jaar gastheer te zijn voor het jaarlijks BelTox-BEMS congres over microplastics georganiseerd door de Belgian Society of Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (BelTox) in samenwerking met de Belgian Environmental Mutagen Society (BEMS) op 4 december in de gebouwen van Sciensano in Brussel (Auditorium Storck, Ernest Blerotstraat 1070 Anderlecht).
Tijdens deze studiedag krijgt u een inleiding tot het onderzoeksveld van microplastics en inzicht in de meest geavanceerde detectiemethoden, waaronder Pyr-GC/MS gekoppeld aan sp-ICP/MS en verschillende microscopietechnieken. Samen zullen we de aanwezigheid en de impact van microplastics in landbouwbodems verkennen.
Daarnaast bespreken we de interdisciplinaire vooruitgang op het gebied van ecotoxicologie, analytische wetenschap en menselijke gezondheid in relatie tot microplastics. We gaan in op toxiciteitsonderzoek via in vivo en alternatieve modellen, evenals op de grote uitdagingen die microplastics vormen voor de risicobeoordeling, met name wat betreft datakwaliteit en gezondheidseffecten.
De dag wordt afgesloten met discussies over mitigatiemaatregelen, een overzicht van EU-onderzoeksprojecten, en een prijsuitreiking. Zoals in vorige edities is er ook een Young Scientists Competition, die jonge onderzoekers de kans biedt hun werk te presenteren, met ruime netwerkmogelijkheden tijdens de koffiepauzes en postersessies.
