The vaccines introduced into Belgian vaccination programmes have considerably changed the epidemiology of the infectious diseases they target, sharply reducing their incidence. Some infections have become sporadic, such as tetanus, or have been eliminated in Belgium, such as congenital rubella and poliomyelitis.
